  • Cohabitating applicants must have been in a stable relationship for at least 12 months prior to applying.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You have not had an additional child in the past 12 months and/or are not currently expecting an additional child through pregnancy or adoption.
  • You must be physically and mentally capable of meeting the child's needs with no major illness or trauma in the past 12 months.

The process to becoming a respite provider is the same as becoming a full- time foster parent.

  • Contact Shannon, Foster Family Development Coordinator at McMan
  • Register and attend Orientation for Caregivers Training
  • Once training is completed, McMan will schedule and conduct a Home Assessment
  • Upon approval, you will be issued a foster home licence and assigned an Alberta Human Services foster care support worker who will provide ongoing support and training.

An approved respite home receives a respite rate of $65.00/day per child (with a max of $195/day for multiple children).

Open your heart, open your home to a child in need!
